Saline or Silicone Gel Implants
Patients generally have two options for breast implants: saline and silicone. Both are FDA-approved and offer their own particular advantages. Because saline is a simple saltwater solution, saline implants are considered a safer option. In the event of a rupture, your body can naturally absorb the saline. However, silicone implants are often preferred for their more natural look and feel. With silicone implants, you also have the option of selecting a thicker silicone gel filling. Nicknamed gummy bear implants, many people believe the thicker silicone gel feels most like natural breast tissue. Your choice of saline or silicone implants will also impact the size and location of your incisions.
Implant Size & Shape
Silicone and saline breast implants come in a number of sizes and projections. Dr. Boudreaux or Dr. Claiborne will evaluate your body type and go over your goals to help you select an appropriate size. They will also explain the different breast implant shapes, discussing the advantages of each. While many patients appreciate a teardrop implant's ability to closely mimic the natural shape of the breast, these implants can cause an asymmetrical appearance if they rotate. Round breast implants, which remain the most popular implant shape, retain their shape no matter which direction they may rotate.
Location of the Implants
Breast implants can be placed just under the breast tissue and above the chest muscle or beneath the chest muscle. The choice influences the overall visual effect as well as the location of incision scars. Our plastic surgeons will take into account a number of factors when recommending your implant placement position, including your anatomy, the size and type of implants you are receiving, and your individual goals and desires.
Location of Incisions
In addition to the type of breast implant, our doctors must also determine what type of incision is most appropriate for your goals. Your options include an inframammary incision under the natural fold of the breast, a periareolar incision around your nipple, or an incision in your armpit. Taking into account your body type and aesthetic goals, our plastic surgeons will choose an incision method that will result in minimal scarring, allowing you to enjoy your stunning new figure to the fullest.
Which Do You Need?
A Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift?

Breast augmentation focuses on the size and shape of the breast. It does not correct drooping breasts. A breast lift focuses on the position of the breast and does not increase the size of your bust.
